The project involved converting a vacant office suite into a state-of-the-art in vitro fertilization (IVF) clinic. The new facility is equipped with advanced features including a cryogenic storage lab, andrology lab, IVF lab, and an egg retrieval surgery center.
Pragmatic PE was responsible for the plumbing and medical gas aspects, with key responsibilities including:
Cryogenic Storage Area: Established a critical liquid nitrogen infrastructure and piping network.
Laboratory Spaces: Installed a carbon dioxide gas system.
Surgery Center and Recovery Rooms: Implemented medical oxygen gas and vacuum systems.
Medical Gas Alarm Infrastructure: Designed and installed NFPA 99 Category 1 medical gas alarm systems.
Patient Rooms and Restrooms: Developed plumbing support systems and constructed three new restrooms.
Hot Water System: Implemented an efficient heat pump domestic hot water recirculation system.
A standout feature of this project was the innovative handling of liquid nitrogen piping systems. These vacuum jacketed systems, typically prefabricated offsite, were meticulously coordinated during the design phase to include a detailed layout of all valves and fittings, streamlining the final assembly process for the contractor. This strategic approach, diverging from conventional schematic engineered plans, facilitated more efficient contractor coordination.
