The San Jose State University reclaimed water project was composed of three buildings: Yoshihiro Uchida Hall, the Spartan Complex, and the Student Wellness Center. The goal of the project was to convert the potable cold water piping serving the water closets, urinals, and trap primers in these three buildings into a recycled water system.

Pragmatic Professional Engineers provided engineered drawings of the converted plumbing system for each building and demonstrated that no cross contamination would occur between the potable water system and the reclaimed water system. These drawings were approved by South Bay Water Recycling and were used to help San Jose State achieve a reduction in potable water usages across all three major buildings on campus. This project was part of San Jose State’s larger recycled water ini%a%ve which has reduced the potable water usage on campus by forty-three percent since 2013.
