Reason for Energy Study: Life Cycle Cost Analysis for Equipment Replacement

Completion Date: 2023

Owner: Fremont Union High School District

Architect: ARCH-PAC

For Monta Vista High School's swimming pool, our team embarked on a comprehensive stacked cash flow analysis to evaluate the life cycle costs associated with replacing the aging hot water boiler system and pumps. The existing boiler, nearing its two-decade mark, was operating at a suboptimal efficiency of 73%. In contrast, modern condensing boilers boast efficiencies exceeding 96%. By meticulously factoring in inflation rates, the prevailing costs of natural gas and electricity, the installation expenses for a new pool equipment system, and projected maintenance and repair costs, we established a compelling financial case. Our analysis conclusively demonstrated a positive net present value for the equipment replacement. By delving deep into calculations encompassing run time, utility expenditures, and continuous maintenance costs, we highlighted a substantial net present value nearing $1,500,000 for this capital endeavor, underscoring the long-term financial prudence of the proposed replacement.
