Project Description

Pragmatic PE supported the Sunnyvale Middle School expansion by delivering full commissioning services for two new Folia classroom buildings, totaling 35,000 sq. ft. Designed to accommodate 7th and 8th grade students, the facilities introduced 23 new classrooms optimized for modern learning environments.

A defining feature of this project was its pursuit of CHPS-Designed certification (Collaborative for High Performance Schools), which required meticulous coordination and a commitment to sustainability. Our team worked closely with all stakeholders to ensure every system—from HVAC to controls—met performance standards from day one.

The buildings use a Daikin VRF HVAC system, integrated with Pelican Wireless controls, designed to deliver energy-efficient operation with scalable, long-term reliability. Pragmatic PE’s role was to validate these systems under real-world operating conditions, identifying and resolving inefficiencies before handover.

By proactively addressing commissioning challenges, we helped Sunnyvale School District realize their vision: high-performance learning spaces that are comfortable, energy-smart, and built to last.
