Project Description
Pragmatic Professional Engineers supported the expansion of Sunnyvale Middle School by providing commissioning services for two new Folia classroom buildings totaling 35,000 square feet. The new facilities serve seventh- and eighth-grade students and add 23 classrooms designed for modern, flexible learning.
Developed by Quattrocchi Kwok Architects and Blach Construction, the Folia system is a pre-engineered, prefabricated building solution created to accelerate school delivery while maintaining high standards for energy efficiency, durability, and occupant comfort. Each Folia project integrates advanced mechanical and control systems that require precise commissioning to achieve their intended performance.
The Sunnyvale project pursued CHPS-Designed certification, which required detailed coordination and attention to sustainable design and operational performance. Pragmatic PE collaborated closely with project stakeholders to verify that all building systems, including the Daikin VRF HVAC system and Pelican Wireless controls, operated efficiently and met design intent.
Through Eichler Associates, Pragmatic PE provided 100 percent commissioning services to confirm the buildings performed as designed. Our team’s technical insights have informed future Folia designs and refined how these modular classroom systems function in the field.
The project helped Sunnyvale School District deliver energy-efficient, reliable, and comfortable learning environments that support long-term sustainability goals.
